For something so sturdy, there's something really indulgent about brass beds. On the one hand, they're definitely old fashioned and a bit country cottage. Yet at the same time there's something very weighty and masculine about their presence. They seem to age a room up significantly, and they never strike me as trendy or as a piece that you would need to lose next time you remodeled.
I just adore the idea of doing coordinating brass/iron bed frames in a shared kids' room. No matter how often your kids change furniture, or wall paint, or wood types, the beds will work. Plus, they remind me of a little French dormitory, a la Madeline, which always fills me with joy.
In the master, a brass bed with dark walls feels insanely atmospheric, and honestly a bit sexy. They're just so rock solid and contrasted with a white down comforter, it's basically a CMT music video. My preference is for the slightly aged patina on the left, but if you want a much more feminine and glamorous vibe, then you just need to polish the heck out of it.
If you aren't going to do a brass bed in the Master, then your other choice is a guest room. They're neutral and give the impression that you put a decent amount of effort into the space. They have such a memorable, eye grabbing presence that you don't need to fill the space with additional furniture. That's convenient because guest rooms are often a bit of a cast off space, and this way you avoid have mismatched wood.
Do you like an aged brass bed, or are you the minimalist, frame-free type?
