Biblio: Wordless Books

When someone starts talking to you about the importance of wordless picture books for kids, your first instinct might be a really solid umm... what the hell? Lazy much? Like you couldn't even throw 25 words down to go with these illustrations? What's the point?

Fortunately, you'd be wrong.

Decorating the Nest: Door Knockers

When you talk about curb appeal, the door itself is a fantastic way to start. You can add a real sense of weight and history to a house with a sturdy, solid door knocker. It's way less effort than shrubs or maintaining a walkaway, and the bang for your buck value is spot on!

Fashion Crush Friday: Marissa Mayer

When you think tech, you don't normally think of high fashion Vogue photoshoots. Marissa Meyer is the tremendous exception to the rule. The Yahoo CEO was initially hired while heavily pregnant, and has always resisted talking about what it means to be a woman in her geek boy world. Fortunately, she just loves to make a fashionable statement and is treated very well by the Vogue world. There's a nice profile in The Cut if you aren't familiar with her.

Fortunately, she often ends up at fancy charity galas where she goes bold and impresses. Other women in the industry often get it awkwardly wrong or bow out entirely by going with a simple black gown. Let's see how Marissa handles things!

Littles: Star Stuff Nursery

Star Stuff Nursery

I love, love, love the sentiment behind this nursery. The entire concept of being made of Star Stuff has always been so romantic and soothing to me and I like the way a space themed nursery encourages a little one to dream big.

Wardrobe Hole: Classic Coach

Note, I'm definitely not ahead of the curve on Coach coming back into fashion. The whole process began about 5-8 years ago when fashionistas and street style gurus started emphatically rebelling from the label covered bags popular at the time. In turn, prices for vintage leather Coach bags started soaring in little consignment shops, eBay and Etsy. Quality American craftsmanship was becoming hot again, and vintage Coach was receiving the recognition it had been denied for years when its tacky, nylon collections were everywhere.

Fashion Crush Friday: Kaya Scodelario

This girl emotes like a nuclear bomb.
The British show Skins was a massive deal a few years ago (err, more like 8 years ago?... oh my god, I'm ancient) and one of the most gripping characters was the mute, mysterious, and epically messed up little sister Effie. Played by Kaya Scodelario, she was completely captivating and ended up being the rock of the show's next generation.

Littles: The Lion's Den

Harry Potter Nursery

Look who learned how to use the framing feature on Polyvore- woop, woop! Here we've got a really fun, Gryffindor inspired nursery. I didn't see many Harry Potter themed nurseries that I enjoyed at first because it's very hard to keep franchise themes from feeling really commercial and branded, which is the opposite of Kerry's favorite things.

Littles: Viking Nursery

Viking Nursery Draft

For some reason, Vikings are hot on my mind these days. I really like the Nordic inspiration here, from the painted detailing on the rocking horse to the rough wood in the dresser and the rocking chair. I have no idea who designed this wall-mounted bookcase, but it is just gorgeous. This would really command attention, and I love the way that it would grow with a child instead of being a cutesy little bookcase or a series of Ikea spice racks used as shelves. If you're going to invest in a fantastic children's literature collection, you want it to feel approachable to little hands but displayed as if it has some intrinsic value.

To me, this feels like the most mature Nursery set yet. I'm very attracted to rooms that can grow easily with a child and don't need repainting and repurchasing every other year and this one certainly seems to fit the bill. Plus, those little Viking ships are just the most fun twist on a traditional sailboat ever and would be such a fun mobile.

Fashion Crush Friday: Princess Sofia of Sweden

I support Kate worship all day every day, but I think we often forget that she isn't the only European Royal in the game. Princess Sofia married into the Swedish royal family a few years ago and recently had her first child. Since then, she has exploded onto the scene as the perfect blend of chic, sophisticated Royal and fresh young thing.
