Celebrations: 2017 Dawns

I am not the host of tonight's New Year's Eve Party, which means it was easy and pressure free to throw together some ideas for a fun celebration. When in doubt, I always think black and gold are the way to go. Plus, I'll tell you what my 2017 Resolutions are!
I'm crazy about these golden, clock and orb themed decor spreads. They range from casual with the green and orange clocks, to more glamorous in gold. The clock cupcakes would be fun for all kinds of celebrations.

So, resolutions?

I'm happy to report that I met my Goodreads 2016 Challenge of 90 books by hitting 91 just this afternoon. That started to weigh at me on the end, and led to me deliberately choosing some shorter books. I think that forcing myself to read even more than usual this year was a great way to remind myself of all the different worlds out there, so reading needs to be another facet of my 2017 experience for sure.

However, God 90 books got difficult! This year I'm going to go with Reading 77 books in honor of 2017.

I was thrilled to receive my first tarot deck for Christmas, The Linestrider Tarot by Siolo Thompson, and I already feel that my first reading today was illuminating. They say that one of the best ways to acclimate to your deck is to pull a card a day and journal about the experience. I really want to focus on being more introspective in 2017. One of the big reasons I ran into trouble in 2016 was because I wasn't listening to myself and I was afraid to face my truth. In 2017, I want to understand myself better by taking the time to be quiet with myself.

Therefore, my goal is to complete a journal entry each day about my tarot pulls.

Downsizing and minimalism have been on my mind for awhile now, but I've really only been paying lip service. I decided to enter 2017 with more commitment, and begin selling off old furniture that I no longer want on Craigslist. I just sold my first item, a black leather recliner for $100, and I've got another recliner and our old kitchen table and chairs listed right now. I already feel a weight leaving my shoulders at actively removing things that never brought me joy anyway.

In that same vein, I can't just let myself accumulate more meaningless items to take the place of the first ones. I need to be a deliberate shopper this year only acquiring what I need and love and not bogging myself down with cheap bargains that don't serve a purpose.

So, selling off old furniture and clothes in 2017 and bringing fewer things into my home is going to be a major resolution.

I'll be sure to keep you posted on how it all goes with regular Resolution Updates.
