Fashion Crush Friday: Princess Sofia of Sweden

I support Kate worship all day every day, but I think we often forget that she isn't the only European Royal in the game. Princess Sofia married into the Swedish royal family a few years ago and recently had her first child. Since then, she has exploded onto the scene as the perfect blend of chic, sophisticated Royal and fresh young thing.

This is especially interesting because Sofia spent her 20s as a glamour model and reality show contestant. She was left with a seriously uphill battle to redefine herself as a classy potential Princess. Normally, I'm not terribly kind to former reality show contestants but Sofia has proven herself to be a real player in the family and on the Swedish fashion scene, so we're going to make an exception. Lets take a look at some of her best looks.

She attends a large number of cultural, military and political events each year, which means a lot of gowns. I love the black lace on the left and the muted glitter (btw oh hey Prince bump) on the right. It's hard to be one of the best dressed in what are theoretically very basic dresses, but it's obvious to see here that she just glows.

Sofia has embraced a distinctly feminine look that is a bit of a retro throwback. The flounce at the shoulders is a perfect parallel to her swooping hem. The powder blue shouldn't work, but boy does it.

While we're talking about feminine details, the soft leaf outline on the bust on the left and the shameless floppy bow on the right are superb. I rotate between wanting to be the primmest Jackie O and wanting to be a drunk yet sexy Cara Delevingne, so her unashamed femininity is a favorite of mine. She has a nice bounce to her hair, and well structured clutches that ensure that even a conservative dress never looks dowdy.

But I did say that she was a fun little thing right? This flowing dress on the left is a bit bohemian, and I love the floral detail on the trim. This fascinator is fantastic and I'm pretty sure that she put a glitter collar onto a cream skirt suit here.

Remember when I told you that she was also chic and sophisticated? No one in the British Royal family would ever branch out enough to wear a cobalt blue jumpsuit to a formal event. This peach, slinky dress is a showstopper and should be indecent, but the sleeves and high neckline add a whole new level of class. Then she wore a silk long sleeved dress with a floral stem print... and we know that's when I was done.

What do you say? Are you surprised at how many other fashionable Royals are tromping around Europe?
