Celebrations: HP & the Cursed Child Costume Party

Welcome to our 7/31 Cursed Child Re-Cap! We simply had to have a party, and we had to get dressed up, and we had to theme all.the.things.

On a list of things I'm grateful for from my parents, their absolute conviction to anything that interests them seriously ranks. It's always full tilt, liquor flowing, wigs affixed celebration. Want to have a Prohibition party? Better make sure everyone comes in costume, make extra hair pieces and fedoras, and turn the porch into a speakeasy with a fake brick wall. No one likes a quitter.
Wait, you don't know what we're talking about when I drop the famous 7/31 date? You didn't miss the news about the release of J.K. Rowling's script from her new West End play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, right? Actually, forgive me for asking as if you're some Muggle plebe. Moving on.

Thankfully, Pinterest has no shortage of Harry Potter party suggestions. Here were some of our inspiration photos as we geared up to get the menu and the costumes spot on.

Our menu included meat pasties, my mom's famous rum butterbeer, and:

And now ladies and gents, it's time to meet my family. Yep, I'm related to Bellatrix Lestrange, Rodolphus Lestrange, Mad Eye Moody, Professor Trelawney, Charlie Weasley, and I moonlight as Dobby the house elf.

We had full glasses of butterbeer, got really sweaty in our costumes, ate Nargle glazed chicken, and headed for the official release party! We had a decent time posing for photos at the bookstore, making wands, and a kind hearted young man even freed Dobby with a sock at the cafe.

And the book? Well.. I'm not ready to talk about that just yet. That's... complicated.

And remember, this was just a warm up for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them party in November when we'll all transform into Magizoologists! Of course, that's only a few days before we transform that back porch into a Polynesian Tiki Lounge for Thanksgiving. Gosh... that means it's time for another Pinterest board!

Does your family love a good costume party?
