Fashion Crush Friday: Killjoy's Dutch

In some ways, Dutch of Killjoys reminds me of Elena Michaels from Bitten. Both are woman playing in a man's world, dressing for combat, and making it clear that they are all business. No florals or pastels here. Lots of leather and tight gear that won't get caught in the woods or on a run.

The Killjoys wardrobe team had their work cut out for them. They need Dutch to be recognizable as a tough, fierce bounty hunter, but they also needed things to be slightly off kilter enough that you could believe you were watching an intergalactic bounty hunter with a spaceship. I assume that's why there are so many slightly unusual details that are slightly futuristic like the stitching on her jackets and the straps criss-crossing on her tops.

Instead of wearing a tight bun, she leaves her hair down in a mess of braids and dreads. I love the way that they deliberately selected an actress with a frame that could actually shows years' worth of martial arts training and physical combat. She isn't a tiny waif like most sci-fi ladies and has one heck of a solid presence.

Here's we've got outdoor gear with a nice bulky laser type gun, and a leather jacket with a tapered rise in the mid section and lots of braided detail on the arms. There's mobility in the slightly higher hem of the jacket and it leaves easy access to the weapons belt slung low on her hips.

Dutch is either in jewel tones or dirty grays, but the materials are always practical. Here we've got another leather jacket that have pointed lapels, and a criss-crossing tank top underneath. On the right, she's wearing the same dirty grey neutrals, but even her cotton top has a leather overlay.

If Dutch isn't in a leather gear jacket, she tends to wear sleeveless tops that allow for lots of motion, and skim her body. We've got a thigh holster here, and again that masculine thick weapons belt. The rich colors look perfectly saturated against her darker skin and hair.

Very rarely, Dutch has to play the highborn little lady that she once was, and she gets all dressed up with a vengeance. Here, the necklace is massive and her dress is fantastically vibrant. Her version of blending in is to stand out with a vengeance.

And if you aren't jealous yet, she gets to spend her day with the Jacobis brothers who take the role of second and third on her bounty team. And it is most definitely her team.

What do you think? Do you buy the futuristic bounty hunter vibe?
