Fashion Crush Friday: Tavi Gevinson

When it comes to Fashion Prodigies, no one has rocked the boat in the past decade quite like Tavi Gevinson. As a teensy middle schooler, she found online acclaim with her Style Rookie blog and then spent the following decade in the spotlight as a fashion darling.

Now as an outspoken feminist, Broadway star of "The Crucible", and editor of the Rookie Yearbook, Tavi's street style game is a magical thing to behold.

Never overly sexual, trendy, or try hard, she has a great eye for outfit assembly. With her fame came the ability to access designer pieces, and she's now a young woman wandering the streets in Chanel.
She's also a frequent covergirl in her own right these days.

What I love about Tavi is that she doesn't drown her beautiful pieces in endless layers. She layered a bit more vigorously in her preteen days, but now she lets each piece stand on its own. Her hair has gotten sleeker and her lips have gotten redder but beyond that, her palette is as wild and far ranging as ever.

It's the finishing details that keep Tavi from ever looking her age. The rope cord at at the waist and the cutouts at the hem are the next step up from a typical fashionable 19 year old's harem pants, and her crop top is the perfect non-detail to let the pants shine. She also dyed her hair grey at age 12 and wore this delightful bedazzled creation to church. Seriously, fashion is a gift, and she's got it.

Tavi reinvents herself frequently, and part of that is that she often seems to have wandered in from a different era. She can play flower child and loves vintage circular sun glasses, but there's also something mod about this look on the right with the billowing draped pants and the neatly tucked tank top.

Tavi is generally far from sexual, which means that she does some great androgynous work. That shrunken Apollo sweater is to die for and it's paired with sleek little boots, with her pant legs rolled up to create some demarkation in the outfit. The long sweater trench on the right is an interesting covering for the feminine skirt and the beat up white sneakers.
