Fashion Crush Friday: Clemence Poesy

Clemence Poesy is one of Paris's It Girls, most recognizable as Fleur Weasley from the Harry Potter films. When a movie producer selects you to play a being of supernatural beauty, that's a pretty high compliment. But it's her fashion sense that has earned her Muse status for Chanel and keeps the blogs fascinated.

She exemplifies Parisian street style. Never overdone, she has master the off duty model look- as in when a girl looks like she's rolled out of bed, thrown on whatever was on her bedroom floor, and could still steal your boyfriend before her morning croissant. Her hair is most often loose with a healthy gloss, but never straightened and half the time doesn't even seem brushed.

She absolutely dominates the menswear game. She makes her clothes slouch and drape around her female form, and generally keeps things monochrome. On the left, note the femininity in the silk drape of her shirt before her pants billow out. On the right, she wears a men's blazer like a slouching, rounded lapel cardigan. Having a quilted Chanel purse on your arm doesn't hurt in either outfit, of course.

When it comes to menswear getting an appropriate fit is crucial. Having the right fit is what separates slouchy, casual menswear from a girl who just looks like she can't buy the right size sweater. Here Clemence's pants billow out into a flare, but are perfectly hemmed to brush the top of her shoe and tailored to follow her thin upper leg line. Her black blazer ends at mid thigh so that you can see the defined upper leg area, and fits perfectly in the shoulders to maintain a lean up and down frame and keep her from looking boxy. This is what being a master of street style is all about.

Her hat game is pretty constant, and although she doesn't often play with print or color, she does play with textures. Note how luxurious the oversized sweater is, and the almost overwhelming drape of her camel scarf. It's also a good time to note those purses again. Instead of an undefined hobo bag or over the shoulder bucket tote, she is carries a sleek snakeskin clutch. She seems to prefer rigid, well defined bag frames that add a sprinkle of polish even when the rest of her outfit is loose.

Here she drops into the Chanel show with tough, flat motorcycle boots and tight black denim, balanced with her vintage Chanel tweed jacket. The only color is a splash of red from her clutch, and again she's wearing a simple, fitted, slightly translucent white t-shirt. Granted, being naturally gorgeous is a clear advantage, but with the right eye for proportions, balance and textures, her style actually isn't all that hard to emulate.

Those French women certainly have something figured out!
